Renewal of Illinois FSSMC

If you have previously been certified in Illinois and posses a Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification (FSSMC) certificate:

  • Your certification expires 5 years from date of initial certification
  • You must complete continuing education or a renewal examination during the 5 years after your certificate is issued, but before that certificate expires. This may not be done after the certificate expires (There are no exceptions).

Your specific options are:

  • Complete an approved 5 hour refresher course, or
  • Complete an approved 15 hour FSSMC course, or
  • Complete an IDPH pre-approved course that is at least 5 hours long, or
  • Complete a renewal examination with a score of 75% or above. That test may not be retaken, if failed.

One of the options above must be completed.

We offer the Learn2Serve Food Safety Management Principles Certification Training course that provides training to fulfill the 15 hour Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification (FSSMC) Course requirement in Illinois. The final certification examination is not included and is handled separately.

A typical Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager course held in a classroom lasts 15 to 20 hours, costs $125 to $175 and are frequently held on weekends.

For those of us who work in the food and beverage industry, this is our busiest time and difficult to schedule the day off. If you work for tips, these are the most profitable days we have.

Taking the Illinois FSSMC course online allows you to take the course on your own schedule and at your own pace. If you didn't understand part of the video, you may replay it to see it again and get the answers. This is hard to do in a large class of 20 to 30 people when an instructor is already speaking on the next subject.

In today's economy, money is tight, gasoline is expensive and it makes sense to eliminate unnecessary trips when possible. Taking our online Illinois Food Safety Manager course allows you to save this time and expense.
